TWO MENTIONS TODAY

Our Lakers have added a free-agent guard.
His name is Xavier Henry. The team is allowed
15 or 16 players on their roster and with Henry
coming in, it gives them 14 players. Terms of the
deal were not immediately available. It is likely
that this new player's contract is a one-year deal.
We have also recently added small forward Shawne
Williams and Elias Harris as partially guaranteed
deals. It is speculated too that a second-round
draft pick with Ryan Kelly could be a possibility.
Right now he is rehabilitating from foot surgery
he had in April. All in all the Lakers are planning
on having anywhere between 18-20 players to fill
out their training camp roster, including Marcus
Landry who led the Lakers' Summer League team
in scoring, so we are keeping then, between 13-15
players for playing, most likely.

There was a force in pro basketball that we just
learned has died at age 73. His name is Zelmo
Beaty, a star center in the NBA and always was
referred to as undersized being but 6'9" height.
He fought having cancer, his wife, Annie said.
He looked up to Wilt Chamberlain and Bob Rule.
Beaty played with our Lakers in the NBA for his
final season 1974-1975. He played in 69 games
averaging 17.6 minutes, 5.5 points & 4.7 rebounds.
He was named to the league's all-rookie team his
first season 1962-63 and played in 2 NBA All Star Games.
Thank you for reading my two basketball mentions
this fateful remembrance day of 9-11. May God Bless.
