"TIS OCTOBER ALREADY

This writer is now home from her lovely little
cruise and I would urge any one that is even
a bit inclined towards this form of a holiday
to think on it in earnest. The entire crew
treated us as if we were of Royal birth.
Totally delightful. Am back and trying hard
to get into the clutches of a more "norm".
Weather is a tad cooler which is nice as we
see the East coast is having deluge of rains.

Lakers rookie, D'Angelo Russell, is being
rest;less a bit right now but is willing to
learn all that he can glean from Lakers
Star, Kobe Bryant. His first day at training
camp has shown him he needs to sweat,
build a rhythm and impress.
The Lakers completed two days of
training at Stan Sheriff Center.
Russell was # 2 pick and is trying to gain
the teams' trust in him. He loves playing
the game and feels challenged, averaging 11.6
points on 37.7 %, 3.5 turnovers & 3.5 assists
in summer league play. He has to prove
he can translate his outside shooting &
play-making to the NBA. The Lakers feel
he will be handling that challenge just fine.

Kobe, himself, has returned to the court
but skipped portions of practice on his
first day at camp with focus of staying
healthy all season. He actually was out on the
court one full hour before any body else showed up
for practice. A trait he has always admitted to.
Kobe did decide to skip portions of the
sprinting and team shooting drills and sat
out icing his injured shoulder, which will
evidently be the case he will adhere to during the
2015-16 season of play. He has played in only 41 games
in the past 2 years amid overlapping injuries
to his left Achilles tendon, left knee +right shoulder.
Hence, he participated about 10-12 minutes to each
20 minute drill in a practice that lasted just over 3 hr's.

Playing for small successes this year, Lakers GM
Mitch Kupchak wants to build on his younger
players performances this season. Of course,
(he says). there will always be pressure to win
to make the playoffs & even a Championship.
Each and every year, that has been our goal
he said, but today we are more realistic with just
where we are. Now? It is about building a foundation
that will ultimately lead us to winning and we hope
it will be sooner rather than later,

And finally, we bid goodbye to another of our U.S.
Sports Greats. Not in Basketball,, but rather Baseball.
His real name was Lawrence Peter Berra but early
on was dubbed Yogi, who always claimed that one
could never fake authenticity. Our loss is great for
the most of us who relished his words of "Yogi'isms".
He helped win 10 World Series with the N.Y.Yankees.
At age 90, he died of natural causes in his home in
New Jersey, his director of the Yogi Museum stated.
A quote that is so funny is this one" When you are
in your car and come to a fork in the road, take it".
And as he himself would have told you"It isn't over
until its' over".  RIP, Yogi, you are really missed.
And so, dear readers, as of right now," it seems like
deja-vu all over again".
